My logs are full of messages from avahi-daemon. Most are like this: Oct 21 15:46:56 scop4 avahi-daemon[5086]: Invalid query packet. but some are like this: Oct 21 15:42:38 scop4 avahi-daemon[5086]: Invalid response packet from host 10.2.0.7. and there are other even more esoteric ones. Google tells me that this problem is affecting a lot of people. There seem to be several different issues: -1- total uselessness of messages without IP addresses -2- practical uselessness of messages on a network with lots of machines where you don't have control over what they run -3- some messages caused by avahi-daemon not understanding more recent Mac protocol versions.
