[opensuse] RepoKommander for SUSE Linux
Hi I've made a Kommander script for adding repositories to SL 10.1. Versions are available for both rug/YaST and Smart. Check it out at: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=43378 It should work nicely but it needs polish. I decided to release early - time will tell if I'll release often, too ;) This is only sort of a proof of concept. It would be better if a real developer could make something better. But I actually think it's pretty useful. I'm considering adding functionality like installing multimedia-packages and the like. Thanks to Benjamin, aka. benJIman for some pointers. The URLs you are using need some work. OpenSUSE at GWDG is under /pub/opensuse/. Linux at GWDG is under /pub/linux/. /pub/suse/ is a permanent compatibility link to match ftp.suse.com, but all other symlink additions I did after studying the error logs will be gone with the next generation hardware. Thanks, I'll have that fixed in the next release. Kind of relieved to not catch more heat from a mirror aministrator ;) I was afraid it might not be welcomed by some of the mirrors I've used. My only sorrow at GWDG is the bandwidth limitation - 500 MBit during the day, 800 MBit from 23 to 6 h MEST (21 to 4 h GMT). I guess it would be a good idea to rely as much as possible on the "redirection" URLs at download/software.opensuse.org. The redirection mechanism is pretty much refined now - the server "knows" about presence of almost every single file at the host to which the redirection will show. Christoph, isn't it? And please Christoph list what gets redirected to the pool of mirrors. For all these directories, the "main" URL would be best. Yep, and the code that is used to redirect people and keep a state cache is open and available for review and suggestions at https://forgesvn1.novell.com/svn/opensuse/trunk/tools/download-redirector/

Just tell us the "main" URLs which redirect to the mirror pool. I know it is the 10.1 tree and the build server tree, and I hope factory too soon, but which URL redirects what? http://download.openSUSE.org/ -> http://ftp.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/ (the drpmsync subtree inside of factory is blacklisted, repositories as well.) http://software.openSUSE.org/download/ -> http://ftp.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/repositories/ Regards Christoph --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

http://software.openSUSE.org/download/ -> http://ftp.openSUSE.org/pub/opensuse/repositories/
So if I understand it right, all "public lists" should use http://download.openSUSE.org/distribution/XXX for anything like opensuse/distribution/XXX and http://software.openSUSE.org/download/XXX for any build server repository XXX. You know, my next wish is the push service for the whole factory, including inclusion into the redirection service... Right.

You'll get this for free, as soon as Factory ist built in the Build Service, which will hopefully be the case sooner or later ;) Regards Christoph --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org

And many thanks to you as well, you have just made openSUSE much more user friendly. One suggestion, add a blurb that adding "third party" repos could make the system unusable/unstable. Not that using "third party" repos is a bad thing it is just newbies could unknowingly shoot themselves in the proverbial foot and not know how to back out those changes. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-help@opensuse.org
