Hi Everybody. I'm hoping that someone can give me a hint on how I can get SuSE Linux 8.0 to recognise the sound chip in a Sony VAIO 505TR Laptop. IIRC, this box uses an Ensonic ESS1879. Years ago, I had Red Hat on this contraption which recognized (via sndconfig) and treated the sound chip as a SoundBlaster16 - producing satisfactory sound. Unfortunately, when I try to use SuSE 8.0, the best I can get out of the sound chip is hissing. Right now, I'm getting by with just the terminal bell - which works fine. But, I'd like to be able to use sound fully. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
