Hi, Switching to Linux with OpenSUSE 10.2 (x86_64) in my desktop. Installation picked up almost all my hardware which I am very happy about. Using a ATI Radeon X850XT which was detected correctly. Once all installed I started with eye candy stuffs (Xgl, Beryl etc). Doesn't work!! As soon as I enable Xgl, on reboot my X crashes. I did not find OpenSuSE ATI docs to be very clear. How do I know if the installer+updates during install used a ATI driver? How do I check the info/version of the installed driver? Do I need to install a latest from ATI site anyway? They say they are compitable uptoto Xorg 7.1 only. OpenSuSE 10.2 has 7.2 RC (which is a 7.1 in real version numbering) . Is that OK? If you look at the archive list http://lists.opensuse.org ... and search for X1050 you can read my update for how to download, build, and install the driver. Its fairly straight forward... but definitely your mileage may vary... some folks do not have good results with the proprietary driver, and the driver is as-is. ATI takes feedback only... and at this point they are not very cooperative with their customers. -- Kind regards, M Harris <>< -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
