Re: [SLE] Should I buy Partition Magic 5? THANKS.
Thanks to everyone who answered this question for me. And the answers came so quickly! Particular thanks to Rowan Reid who included some documentation in his response and Nick Zentena who pointed me to a gzip for non Linux systems. I'll think about the all the points made and follow up the references given. Once again, thanks. David Hamilton Only I give the right to read what I write and PGP allows me to make that choice. I have used Partition Magic for years. I have a boot diskette with Partition Magic 5. I use it at Linux installfests. I use it to rearrange my own system. I would love to see a version for Linux (well Mandrake 7.0 uses a cut down version of it). "David Hamilton" wrote:

What capabilities does PM5 have for handling Linux ext2 partitions? Can it move them? Resize them? Paul -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

<snip> PM4 will do that! Ergo, 5 would do all that & more.... In the past, I have told partition magic to resize 2 windows partitions, delete a windows partion, resize and move 3 Linux partitions. Partition Magic schedules its operations so that you can make a bunch of changes, and when you are comfortable with what you have, then tell PM to perform the operations. The only thing I don't like is that it automatically does a block check. You can turn that off, but I usually forget.

Is there an easy way to change the size of a partition? I just need a way to shift a little space from one partition to another so I can get rid of a symlink that messes up Yast's idea of the available space.
That's what it's all about. You can do exactly what you want.

There is a Linux directory on the Partition Magic CD. I built my diskettes on my Windows system. I don't have my CD available here. On 14 Apr 2000, at 7:23, joe lerch wrote:

You don't. All you need is two DOS formatted floppy disks; then open the DOS folder on the PM CD and load the contents of the DISK1 and DISK2 folders onto their repsective floppies. Disk 1 will boot Caldera OpenDOS, then PMagic. Disk 2 contains the help files. At least that's how I remember it worked for me ;-) JV -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
AFAIK the cheapest way to obtain PM is with electronic delivery which renders `start up' via CDRom a moot issue. When installed under Windows you are offered the option for a `DOS' install in addition to the regular Windows version. I found I could access this to allow me a one-floppy boot of PM from either OpenDOS or from MS-DOS. It may be possible to take the electronic delivered file (it is a ZIP, IIRC) and pick out the `dos parts', but I haven't done that, so I can't say whether it is possible or not. The classic setup process, of course, requires Windows for handling the dialogue with the console etc. It is safe to say that if you can get it installed on windows _somewhere_ then you can use the DOS auxilliary via Floppy... jan vermeulen wrote:

(I have the same , just copied the dos files to the boot disk and use it from dos. No need for the windows front end. At 09:49 PM 4/13/2000 -0400, Jerry Feldman wrote:
