Hi Wayne;
I've put all the permissions like you showed, but it's still a no-go. I'm still getting "connect script failed" errors. In /var/log/messages it says that pppd is starting and then I get the script error. I should add that my ISP uses PAP. That may change things, but right now it's not even getting to the modem, so I don't know if it matters about PAP. BTW, ppp-on/off does work under root, so I know I have something right.
In the end what I want to do is to be able under user "hatridge" just run, for example, "getmail", which would make the connection, get my email, download outgoing mail and disconnect.
Any ideas?
Yep, that is what I do. 4 times an hour I have a cron job set up in wtopa to connect to the net, set the computer time ( this is overkill!), get any new mail (while deleteing mail I got the last time-this is a hedge on a getpop3 screw-up [ which I should delete]), and send any mail I have written & put into the queue. Twice a day I use slrnpull ( Not includes in the SuSE distribution ;-( ), to go out and get the news groups I have subscribed to. I used to use sendmail & fetchpop for mail. I did not like that setup and have since changed over to qmail and pop3d. I used to lose mail on occasion but since the change-over it had been perfect. I highly recommend Qmail! HTH Wayne
Thanks for your help
