[opensuse] 11.4 evergreen kernel 3.0 update problem
I am using the evergreen repository for 11.4. (i586) For the kernel update to 3.0 I get the following error: "hdjmod-kmp-desktop-1.28_k2.6.37.1_1.2-1.2.i586 requires ksym(desktop:__kmalloc)=12da5bb2, but this requirement cannot be provided." This is completely Greek to me. :-) Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks. -- Jos van Kan registered Linux user #152704 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Do you know that there is a specific evergreen mail list? People there may know more about this. What are you using to do the update, YOU or zypper patch or zypper up? You could also post your list of repositories: "zypper lr --details". - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. This means you have package hdjmod-kmp-desktop which is built for kernel version 2.6.37 and cannot be used with kernel version 3.0. Is package for 3.0 available at all? If not, it will not work in new kernel so you may as well to remove it. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Exactly this. hdjmod-kmp-desktop is not part of official openSUSE 11.4 and therefore we couldn't update that. The first try would probably be to get an updated package from where you got yours but I'm not sure if that'll work out. The next option would be to compile the module locally on your system. I first checked what the module was supposed to do and it appeared it provided support for Hercules hardware. Since I don't use that I just removed the package following Andrey's suggestion. No idea why it got installed in the first place. Just keep my fingers crossed and so far there were no further glitches.
