thunderbird - reply - empty lines
Hi, in thunderbird, i receive from most people most times emails shown as html. i do always reply as plain text - to save energy consumption on servers and to make my emails for other people more save to be sure inside plain text a virus is nearly impossible. (google for: energy consumption of emails ) but since maybe one or two years, when i have a html email and the text is shown: blablabla blabla blabla etc. next line and another line after pressing reply:
blablabla blabla
blabla etc.
next line
and another line
so there are most times additional empty lines inside. is there somehow something inside the configuration that i could get rid of this additional new lines? correct in my opinion would be:
blablabla blabla blabla etc. next line and another line
regards, simoN -- www.becherer.de

hi, found the setting in: edit settings composition under html style "ise paragraph format ....." but there is no difference when reply to a html-mail :-((( i compose text emails and it will add still the unnessesarry empty lines beteen lines it automatically quoted lines. i found this by searching the net: https://support.mozilla.org/hsb/questions/1123441 but there is no answer :-(( from the link: The paragraph feature is already turned off and any composition is in single line format. However when reply to a message from someone else that is originally in single line format, the quoted text appears in double line format. simoN -- www.becherer.de

Hi Simon, I looked at the link you gave and noticed another similar query in the right-hand margin. That seems to give a solution - I don't know if it will work for you?! (I don't use TBird myself) https://support.mozilla.org/sr/questions/1201683

Hi david, you are correct, that did the trick: ------------ https://support.mozilla.org/sr/questions/1201683 Do you view incoming messages in 'Original HTML' or 'Plain Text' ? Try selecting Plain text to test a 'Reply' 'Menu icon' > 'View' > 'Message Body as' > 'Plain Text' ------------ i was never thinking that viewing incomming messages will affect the way they will be quoted/copied to the reply-text-editor i have noticed also: not all incomming html messages are affected. only some of them (always from same sender) convert in this way html to plaintext single line to double line. the difference could be seen when viewing the html as original html simple html plain text in original html they will be shown "correct" single line by line blablabla blabla blabla blablabla --------------- in simple html they will be NOT "correct" always empty line between lines blablabla blabla blabla blablabla --------------- and in plaintext they will be shown also "correct" blablabla blabla blabla blablabla ============= but only when viewing plaintext the conversion to "reply-editing-window" as plaintext will be correct. ========== now new question, is there a key combination to switch single messageview from html to plaintext (viewing everithing in plaintext is no a solution) simoN -- HINWEIS: Wenn Sie diese "reintext" Mail mit Outlook oeffnen kann es sein, dass Outlook diese Mail nicht korrekt formatiert anzeigt. Perhaps attempt to try this > Turn off "Compose messages in HTML format", which is under your account settings, in "Composition and Addressing". This will also get rid of the HTML editor, which can be useful even for plain-text messages. (e.g., it nicely formats lists)

Hi, where do you find this option? i am here on 128.4.2esr (thumbleweed) (and switched it to english) below "tools" i do not have "options" i have tools -> adressbook -> save files -> add-ons and themes -> (and much more...... but no options) i have edit -> settings -> general or: edit -> settings -> composition and in edit -> settings -> composition i found -> HTML Style -> "Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default" but i do NOT see your suggestion: "When using paragraph format, the enter key creates a new paragraph." simoN -- www.becherer.de

I agree the behavior is unintuitive, frustrating and stupid. That's not reason to forget that email composers are editors. The backspace and DEL keys readily remove unwanted lines, as do mouse swipe + DEL key, and other combo actions. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
