[opensuse] "Burn" iso into usb flashdisk
Hi all, I downloaded openSUSE-10.2-GM-i386-mini.iso and wanted to burn it into usb flashdisk. Is it: dd if=openSUSE-10.2-GM-i386-mini.iso of=/dev/sdb1 ? Because the files are there after the dd, but when I boot from it, it just stays there (blank screen with blinking cursor). Is the flashdisk bootable? -- j I've lived in the real world enough, we're all here because we ain't all there. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think so, I fdisk it and set sdb1 as bootable from fdisk. Anything I miss? -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 | Linux tutorial http://linux2.arinet.org 2:01pm up 0:15, 2.6.18.2-34-default GNU/Linux Let's use OpenOffice. http://www.openoffice.org

What you have done is cloning the dvd structure (sector by sector) into an existing partition, obliterating that partition previous structure. And the partition table is not updated - nor that it would be possible, there is no partition type "iso". though, it would probably be readable, even mountable by a running linux, playing with fstab first. To boot from that I think is asking too much. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
