Dear All, I am going out of town for 3 weeks and will be taking my laptop with me that has SusePro8.2 on it. Is there any way that I can connect to my email account through linux no matter what part of the country I am in? I hook up with cox cable internet at home. Everyplace I will be staying is also connected to cable internet. Thanks for any ideas. Marcia

Hi :) if you have a POP account with your ISP, and use a mail client like Kmail , then, wherever you are, all you need to collect your email is : UserName Password internet address of your mail account's POP server internet address of your mail account's SMTP server -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

Except that the smtp server at her ISP will probably reject any emails if she is connected to some other ISP. (not allowing a relay)

As far as getting your mail, that should be the same as it is now, because you can "pop" your mail from anywhere. Asf far as sending your mail, well that'st the advantage of running linux, you can set up sendmail or postfix to send your mail directly without going thru your isp. The only problem with the latter is AOL users are increasingly hard to send mail to with linux, you just about have to go thru your ISP these days. But then, what would any self respecting linux user have to say to an AOL user anyway.... 8-p -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
I had this problem some weeks ago trying to send mail from the USA via a couple of their local ISP's. I read all the docs about mail relays, but had no success - constantly getting permission denied responses. I had to use my UK ISP's provision of web mail in order to send or reply to email. I'd be interested in exactly what you need to configure in postfix to send mail direct as you mention below. To an AOL user, I'd have something to say - do the right thing son, get out from under.
