However it doesn't look healthy! I have an ATI 3D Xpression with the Rage II+ chip (4MB EDO RAM) and a Sceptre P511 monitor. When I go to 16 bpp I see a flickering line about three inches from the left of the screen for the entire height. 24bpp is even worse. I am using the Mach64 server, it seems to work great in 8bpp with the exception of xfmail and Netscape FLOPPING around

Everything seems kosher; I picked the wrong card definition, I chose 3D Xpression whereas the 3D Rage II+ (Internal) was just on the next screen. No difference, from what I see.
My monitor documentation says 30-66 and 50-120 and works fine on 8bpp. If

What server are you using and how are you setting it up. I don't have your earlier post so I don't have the complete background on your problem. How do you start the Xserver? Is you XFree setup within the monitor specs? Sorry for the third degree on this, but it still sounds as if the monitor is being over driven. At lower color depths a lower resolution is generally used. That is a general statement. Typically as you increase the color depth you increase the res. Again this is not always the case, but without knowing your setup and the corresponding resolutions I can't determine for sure if the monitor is over driven. Do you have another OS like Windblows installed, does the video system work OK with it? It is possible that your monitor is going south on you, that's why I ask about performance on another OS. I'll be more attentive to your future posts in hopes of being some help.
I played a bit with xvidtune, I figured if I shrunk the screen area it wouldn't be hitting the monitor so hard, but that's not the case, no difference.
It's possible that something is wrong here, but probably unlikely. BTW, you might poke around the Linux Doc Project for video setup info, somewhere I found a good document on it. I'll look and see if I can source it and post it. Something seems strange, of all the problems I had when I started using UNIX video was one of the least. Probably my dumb luck and of course millage varies a lot. Good Luck Frank
Any other ideas?
