AW: [SLE] SuperTrak SX6000 SuSE 8.2
Hello, it's not a simple question. I just wrote yesterday to promise because of this. I didn't get it work with 8.2 ; the 8.0 and 8.1 disks of promise work fine with my sx6000. When you update or install you need at the start point the module to mount the disks - they are at /dev/sda1 etc. and this must be loaded at the first beginning. As far as I understand it, they generate a scsi module for the kernel. You can download the source with a make file from their us homepage --> support. Now I tried the disk image 8.1 ( which supports kernel 2.4.19) changed all references to the directories to the new kernel 2.4.20 and used the old module --> didnot work as expected, because I think you need to compile the modules for the kernel 2.4.20 . Well, I don't have the kernel source 2.4.20 and last compiled with 2.2.5 and never changed a make file, So if you have experience there, we can try to do it Best Regard Frieder -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Franck [mailto:franck@linuxpourtous.com] Gesendet: Samstag, 9. Therefore, for a new installation of SuSe 8.2 or an update, that does not work but for an installation with Suse 8.0 or 8.1, that work fine : (
When you update or install you need at the start point the module to mount the disks - they are at /dev/sda1 etc. and this must be loaded at the first beginning. As far as I understand it, they generate a scsi module for the kernel. You can download the source with a make file from their us homepage --> support.
What's the module's name of the SuperTrak SX6000 ? The source is in the promise's website ?
Now I tried the disk image 8.1 ( which supports kernel 2.4.19) changed all references to the directories to the new kernel 2.4.20 and used the old module --> didnot work as expected, because I think you need to compile the modules for the kernel 2.4.20 .
What's the difference between .config of 8.1 kernel and .config of 8.2 kernel ?
Well, I don't have the kernel source 2.4.20 and last compiled with 2.2.5 and never changed a make file,
So if you have experience there, we can try to do it
I must buy this card but, if it doesn't work fine with Suse 8.2, it's NOT cool :( Sorry for my poor english :( ++

What's the bootlog say? It seems that in 8.2 that kernel 2.4.20 has problems with promise controllers. I have a Gigabyte with a Promise ide controller. I had problems with it and had to give boot parameters for it. Although your using scsi disks I think this might be the case. There's a list of articles on the SuSE support pages: http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/keylist.PROMISE.html There might be something to helpl you. I have a sneaking suspicion that you may be able to read the i/o's but are not having an IRQ being assigned. Also, if the i/o's and irq's are read correctly, you may need to load some boot parameters that tell it to boot /dev/sda1 first, change the bios boot order, or edit other config files accordingly. Give this URL a look and see if you have any hints related to you problem in the bootlog. I you still need help after that post any relevant sections of the bootlog that tells about the controller. Good luck, Curtis. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/NSuviqnGhdjCOJsRAokVAJwLr8V1NtOKvYCTUlX9/2G5ZSx99wCfZym5 mNgc0tsPb39oXQWshMaiV9E= =jodm -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
