I currently am running SuSE 6.4 w/ 2.2.16 kernel and I am thinking about setting up a stand-alone (not connected to efnet, etc.) IRC server for my seti team. The server exists behind a firewall/router. I do not want to provide any file transfer capability, just chat. All servers (ie. the IRC server) and clients behind the router have transparent access to the internet. I am also using a DNS server that is out on the internet, not one of my own. I was planning on using IRCd, unless another would be better suited to my needs. What I am wanting to know, or find out, is what security issues will need to be addressed and what ports I will need to forward (other than 6667) to the IRC server behind the router. Thanks!
