Lexmarkz35 Calibrates but not print

Greetings to alle SuSE and Linux users of all styles ;-) Now to the ungreeted, (my printer). I hope I am in the right listing for this. On my new SuSE 8.1 box i have a mini usb hub between my box and my Lexmarkz35 printer. I have download the orignal driver from the lexmark site for linux OS. I have installed exactly like the readme said. Then came a calibrating window from the driver software from lexmark that also ran okay. It printed out the color adjustments correct. Now on to CUPS how did Not find the driver in the list. It knows that there is a printer on usb/lp0 but thats all. So I tryed to make adjustments by using a Ghostscript device with pxlcolor then made a test. klack, klack, it tryed to calibrate the that was it, no printing of any test ps. Another problem is when I drive down and boot back up again the light on the usb hub is not burning. I have to pull the usb plug out and back in again. Is it possible that someone can help me with this Ghostly print problem ? A Box with out a printer is like going to school with a lovely notebook and nothing to right with :-/ TiA Robinson

Here's the root of your problem, the Lexmark drivers are not for CUPS, but for LPR. You need to uninstall cups (and it's various associated packages) and install lprng You also need enscript to be installed. I emailed Lexmark about a week ago to ask if they had any plans to release standard PPDs for the Z35 to allow it to be used with CUPS, but have yet to receive a response. One thing to note is that the Lexmark drivers also don't work for sharing the printer with other hosts on a LAN, but the print quality is excellent. What is the printer driver for the Lexmark Z35? I went to www.linuxprinting.org and the Z35 doesn't show up! How do I list the printer drivers resident on my newly installed 8.1 system? Thanks. Bill Porada On Tuesday 03 December 2002 14:38, James Ogley wrote:

Here was the site that i linked to http://drivers.lexmark.com/drivers.nsf/SelectPrinter?OpenForm&Lexmark+Z35+Co... The name of the tar is CJLZ35LE-1.0-1.TAR.GZ . Install instructions are on the site and in the Tar when you open them. And if you succeed to get everything open there is a lexmark helpfile with 96 html help pages thats about 336KB.

I have uninstalled Cups a couple of times and installed LPR and when i went back to make a print test i recieved a warning that there was no printer installed.

I print manager says that enscript is installed But I will go threw all of the above again

Well I hope they answer soon. Customers can get lost that way ;-)

You can get the drivers from Lexmark's website (www.lexmark.com or .co.uk) Note that you need to be using lprng not cups -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1) GNOME updates for SuSE: http://www.usr-local-bin.org
