Hi Should there normally be any module symbols to load ? - purely IDE - P-intel-200 PC SuSE70 system - 2.4.2-4GB Inspecting /boot/System.map-2.4.2-4GB Loaded 11431 symbols from /boot/System.map-2.4.2-4GB. Symbols match kernel version 2.4.2. No module symbols loaded. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< ???? klogd 1.3-3, log source = ksyslog started. <4>Linux version 2.4.2-4GB (root@Pentium.suse.de) (gcc version 2.95.3 20010125 (prerelease)) #1 Fri Mar 2 12:07:31 GMT 2001 Also should I be using 2.4.2-4GB kernel - from ftp/suse/update/71/kernel/ k_deflt_24-2.4.2-4.i386.rpm - installed to be named ( 2.4.2-4GB ) ? , Is it necessary to rename 2.4.2-4GB and /lib/modules/2.4.2-4GB to 2.4.2 - for any reason ? Everything seems to work - so far as I have checked - ALSA sound got updated OK - ppp seems to work - except that Xosview has no ''NET'' anymore , and firewall dosn't seem to be working - something to do with IP-chains Some kind of a Gotcha - when trying to update the kernel I guess - incompatable packages from 70 with 71's ppp update ?? I tryed to keep with all my 70 files - except ppp -had to go to ftp/suse/71 for the update - to match the new kernel and modules. modutils.rpm , and modules - are now up on , ftp/suse/update/70 in the correct versions for new 2.4.2 kernels - if suse would just put the few things that are needed to update to 2.4.2 and any requirement files - as stated in the changes file , then all would a lot easier on us end users . thanks for any input-help on this confusion - -- God does not play dice" -- Einstein "Not only does God play dice, he sometimes throws them where they can't be seen." -- Stephen Hawking
