Hm. lpd is looking for /dev/lp. Did you restart ldp after making the changes to /etc/printvap?

And the job just sits in the lpq until I lprm it.

Can someone tell me how to proceed? How do I make a network /dev/lp?

You can use YaST to setup network printers. Did you try it this way?
