[+/-OT] Note to posters of direct emails to me
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm sent now and then direct replies or even questions off-list. I don't object to that. But pretty often, I can not replicate in kind, because those people mail servers are very strict and reject my direct emails. So, please, if you want an answer, ensure your mail address is reachable to me. If I originate the email, I will go out of my way to be able to send to you. But if it is an answer to a direct email to me, then no, sorry, I will not bother. Not my problem. (To the question about music: sorry, I don't know. I asked somebody else, but I will not be able to send it to you). Technical reason. (no need to read this, I have explained it several times). I can not often email direct to these people because I use postfix and I'm on dial up, dynamic IP. This I can not change. Why? My normal ISP, for instance, only accepts to relay my email if authenticate, and then only if the "from" address is theirs (this affects the address I use here). Another ISP does not use authentication, but instead the IP must be one of theirs; therefore, I can not use it as a relay host all of the time, only some times, and with some tinkering. Another ISP allows relaying but, I learnt recently, modifies the "envelope from" header to match the login name; in this way it is impossible to email to this list, as it only checks the envelope from. This probably violates some rfc or other, but I'm sure I can't convice them to change. Other ISPs in other countries may behave differently. Not here. It seems there are no independent reliable mail providers here, or I'm dumb at finding them out. Some people, now and then, have offered me the use of their servers so that I could relay my email through them; it is a very kind offer, but... no, I do not want to "use" friends in this way, I prefer to hire a local company here to which I can complain and get mad at, without endangering friendships ;-) - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDsV08tTMYHG2NR9URAuD+AJ9T19Rdfgey6IAP5QvlRTQUAQjbwACffHF+ ROnHDBRYMf6XcegXg2ds0ss= =ToDf -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
