Anybody here recently visited Dell's site? Here's a copy of the msg I sent to the webmaster. Actually the BW I got was more like 300 bytes / sec - painfully slow, with lots of stalls. I also perused some of the other sites which were mentioned by Fred here (zdnet, bbc, computer world) while waiting for Dell's pages to load and all of them responded quickly. -------------------------------- I've been frequenting your site for about three weeks, - I purchased an Inspiron 8000. My experience with your site has been that it is usually on the slow side, often VERY slow. During my visit tonite, I also experienced an average BW of 500 bytes / sec or less. Then I noticed that the page has an .asp suffix, and I realized why it's so slow. For grins I checked a Altavista to see if maybe it was my ISP here, which it happens also uses an MS platform for it's routers etc, also yielding widely varying performance, as the ppp graph section on my system performance meter shows as being very inconsistent (jumps all over the scale, from 6k / sec to 0 and everywhere in between), but as usual, AV was quite snappy, so I don't think it's a bottleneck here. I wonder how much business Dell has lost because of this... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Karns jkarns@csd.net
