[SuSE Linux] Suse 6 Rpm's
Hi, is it possible to use any of the version 6 beta RPM's in Suse 5.3? I would like to upgrade my proftpd ftp server as the version distributed in 5.3 lacking some useful features. tia, Joakim - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e Check out the SuSE-FAQ at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A">http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/</A</A>> and the archiv at <A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html"><A HREF="http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A">http://www.suse.com/Mailinglists/suse-linux-e/index.html</A</A>>

5.3 is supposed to run glibc-binaries, so you might be lucky. The package installed without errors, but I haven't tested the server itself. I did go ahead an tryed it on my local experiment box, telneted into it and installed via ftp and it worked fine all the way... the only thing was that the proftpd.conf file was replaced (but backed up as well). So I continued to do the same on my main server with success and now runs ver 1.20Pre1 there. Sorry for bothering with this, but felt unsere about it all when I emailed... but thanks. is it possible to use any of the version 6 beta RPM's in Suse 5.3? It should be ok for most on important programs as long as you have glibc installed you can install the rpms in a different dir and test them.
If you want to be really creative make a whole chroot evenvroment of suse and experment it that. hehe.
