Many distributions seem to support passing the kernel a "fromiso" or "isofile" parameter so that when the system switches from real mode to the kernel, it can pick up with the ISO file (presumably mounting it via a loop mount). I can't find anything that indicates whether this parameter is enabled in openSUSE or not.
install=hd:/image.iso may work.
Thanks, I'll give that a try. I hadn't seen that SDB article before. I'll look that over and see if I can deduce anything about booting the live images this way as well. So far doing it by hand, I haven't been successful in starting those either from an .iso file on the drive or from having copied the contents of the ISO to a directory in the filessytem. Regrettably, I think that this is one of the "missing links" in openSUSE. There is no centralised reference point where someone can readily identify and access to find all the available information re openSUSE. I have yet to find something which is equivalent to Ubuntu's _Launchpad_ or _Community Documentation_ . The 'wiki' is nowhere close in the way it is setup to the way Ubuntu's documentaton is. Sorry folks, and my most sincere apologies for saying this - but them's the truth :-( .
