ALSA drivers and kernel 2.4.15
Hi again, After a successful installation of SuSE 7.3, I configure my SB128 soundcard and all was well. Then i decide to upgrade the kernel to 2.4.15 and ALSA drivers to 0.5.12. I compile both, reboot the PC and i have no sound. Note that the configuration of modules.conf is the same. I check the modules and all the modules was load. I try to run amixer, but return a MIXER error. I check the directory /proc/asound/dev and i notice that the devices has wrong major and minor number (0,0). I reboot with the SuSE default kernel, check /proc/asound/dev and the devices has the write major and minor number (116,*). I run snddevices from the alsa-driver package and nothing. Today i try to put 2.4.14 kernel and see. With SuSE 7.2 , 2.4.14 work ok. Can anyone help me wich this problem? -- Best regards ******************************** Nick Katsamas e-Mail: nkat@forthnet.gr ********************************

Nick, I haven't replaced the Alsa modules on my home workstation or my workstation in the office...and I took both boxes from .10 -> .14 and then to .15 with no issues. I would reinstall the pkgs from the cd's and give the new kernel a whirl. You might have to rerun alsaconf but I didn't have to. Mantel's 2.4.15 has this fix already. No need for additional patching. -Kastus
