After hearing some good reports about kde4, I'd decided to give it a try here on my 10.3 system. I added the kde4 repo and installed a good selection of kde4 software. I logged out of my kde3 session only to find that there is no option on gdm to start a kde4 session. So, how does a mere mortal try out kde4? If yes, I cannot help you. If no, then switch sessions and choose new seesion. Look in

It's been gdm ever since 9.3 or so, regardless of what I've wanted, even though I always install a kde system - and the list of sessions offered to me includes gnome, kde, icewm, xfce, failsafe, custom. So, you're saying if I can get the system to run kdm instead of gdm, kde4 will show up in the session menu? ISTR that last time I tried to get it to run kdm, it ran gdm regardless, so I put that on my list of annoying things to look into when I get a chance. OK, ps confirms that it is kdm and not gdm now, nevertheless kde4 is not offered as a choice in the session menu. Who here has run kde4, and what did you have to do, to invoke a kde4 session? Did you install the package kdebase4-session? It should contain the kde4.desktop file that you need to get the entry in kdm (or gdm for that matter) Anders -- Madness takes its toll -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yep that was it - I guess I assumed it would be installed by default if I installed the kde4 stuff. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
