Quickest fix, edit ~/.everybuddy/contacts and remove the new contact. sounds like they are using another unofficial client and the 2 aren't cooperating. I can only suggest contacting the everybuddy people and asking them, but they'll need to know your everybuddy version, its probably quite out of date if its the one from the suse8 cds.
