something we can't understand in linux, or, install xine for k6
I was trying to install some xine's rpms over my K6 http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/~jcm/skyblade/XINE-0.9.13/ Although an error occurs: it says that the package libxine0-0.9.13-1.k6.rpm is for different architecture. But I 'm sure that my PC is a K6 :) Some ideas? thanks for any help a.

You will need the i586 versions (it is a long story, that is the condensed version, I never read the novel). I would suggest getting xine at http://packman.links2linux.de. His are much newer. BTW, I have a K6-3. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. I was trying to download xine from that site. Somehow it launched Yast and (it appeared to me) installed xine from my SuSE dvd! It actually prompted me to insert my SuSE DVD! I ended up with the xine version that can't play commercial DVDs. Has anyone seen this happen, and can anyone explain? Indeed. Either don't use konqueror to download, or go to the helper applications settings and remove the settings for the .rpm suffix (just search for rpm in the search box and remove all the programs you find, also remove the embedded settings). You may also want to remove the krpmview.desktop file from /opt/kde3/share/services/ in case konqueror still tried to handle rpms. It seems the konqueror package handler plugin thing is broken in a subtle way that makes it misbehave like that sometimes, though not always.

When you go to click on the files, hold down the "shift" key. This will circumvent the habit of Konqueror launching YaST to install the RPM and instead act as you would expect - to ask you whether to launch or save the program to a locations. Just make sure you have a folder/directory to put these files into, since they can get scattered. Once you have all the files in a nice convenient location, then as root in the konsole, type rpm -Uhv *.rpm --nodeps --force and then run SuSEconfig. for playing commercial DVDs you need to install the necessary codecs. See the thread DVD Encrypted at this list. a. Bryan Tyson escreveu:

Yep, follow the link for the Packman site that Joe suggested. It is specifically made for SuSE. Get all the dependent packages, and the codecs. I had problems with Xine, due to the fact that SuSE includes a crippled version because the RIAA/MPAA are a bunch of draconian fools. But the Packman rpms work like a charm.
