[S.u.S.E. Linux] RealAudio, Communicator & SuSE 5.2

Ok, with all the discussion I thought I'd try to get RealAdio up with my AWE64. Do you have to do anything special to Communicator to get it to see the (plugins), files in /opt/netcape/plugins/ ? Like delete the libnull file ? I didn't see anything referenced in the README. Appreciate help from the folks who have climbed this mountain. -Dee -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e

Well, all the information you need is in the documentation for realplayer. There are detailed instructions included. What you need to do is 1.cp RAObserver.Class and RAPlayer.Class to your netscape/plugins dir 2.ln -s /yourrvplayerdir/librvplayer.so /yournetscapedir/plugins/librvplayer.so 3.add your rvplayer dir to your path and your ld library path 4. DO NOT delete the default netscape plugin. W.D.McKinney wrote:

I asked for help concerning sound support under SuSE 5.2 before. Sound
for most programs was working with my custom compiled kernel (had sound
compiled in). Someone suggested that sound works better as a module so
I reverted back to the original kernel supplied with SuSE 5.2. Went into
/usr/src/linux.../sound and compiled (after reading several Readme files).
I have a non-pnp soundblaster 16. I copied the file sound.o to the modules
tree and sure enough when I run a program requiring sound the module is
loaded automagicly and sound plays. This is all great, as far as it goes.
I still cannot get sound with xboing. I know sounds should be heard
with xboing. Here is the question I hope someone will be kind enough to
answer:
Does sound work for you when you play xboing?
If the answer is yes could you please add details as to you configuration.
If the answer is no (and other programs produce sound) then please also
response. This way I can stop trying to get sound to work.
Thanks for your time,
Terry

I too have no sound in Xboing. Also none in kde. But that is a kde prob. Terry Eck wrote:

I also have no sound, but on a P200+ Cyrix the game goes so fast it is
unplayable. Is there a way to slow it down?

First off thanks for replying to my question on sound in xboing. I can now stop worring about how to configure it, we'll just say it's broke. As far as speed, there are command line options to control the speed as well as grabing the mouse. These two options, as well as the -sound option (which is broke) should be documented in "man xboing". I think speed can also be set with the numbers 1,2,.. while playing the game. I have to set the speed to the lowest to have any change of staying in the game. On Mon, 15 Jun 1998, TEX wrote:

I have an AWE32, have sound compiled as a module, and have configured isapnp. I have sound for mp3's, audio cd's, Quake/Quake2/Doom, Realplayer, Xanim, and midi. I also have sound for Xmame and games that use the rplay daemon, but ONLY if I boot from loadlin, so obviously something is configured in DOS that isn't getting configured in a lilo boot. I haven't tracked this down yet, but it is so trivial that I haven't been in a big hurry. Try booting from loadlin if you dual boot, and see if you then have sound in Xboing. If so we have the same problem and perhaps someone might offer an answer as to what the problem is. Terry Eck wrote:

I will give you suggestion about loadlin a try but I don't think my soundcard needs to be initialized under DOS. I'm getting sound with all the programs (quake/doom/xpat2/...) except xboing. You did not mention if you've run xboing. I assume this means you don't. I would still like someone to answer the following: If you run xboing, does it produce sound and if so what is your configuration? Here is an excerpt from the man page for xboing: The sound option will enable sound to be turned on if possible. Within the game you may press <s> to toggle sound on or off. The default is OFF. Hmm, I knew that man pages were there for a reason. Terry Eck wrote:

I know about the man xboing and the option <s> and the command line option -sound. I've played xboing on RedHat Linux with sound. I've play xboing on SuSE and sound does not work for me. I'll have to assume that xboing sound is broken under SuSE 5.2 unless someone can tell me they have run xboing and they hear sound. I will not go back into my hole and play xboing without sound.
