Hello kernel/C guru's Here is my problem again. The messages was lost, I guess ;) I try to build a kernel (didn't matter what kernel) on my brand new 486 DX2 machine, but I can't get it running. After I configure the options, with "make config", and made the dependencies with make dep, I'am ready to build the kernel ( I think) I type "make bzImage" The compilor is beginning to compile the kernel, an after a wile (randomize) there apears a fatal message on the screen. "Internal Compilor error, caugt deathly signal 11, pipe closed" After that I try to compile the kernel again, with the same command, and it goes compiling where it prevously stoped. And again afer a while there will be another internal compilore message. I even tried it on a RedHad machine, with a different gcc, and again there was a internal compilor message. Can anybody give me a clue? You seem to be forgetting a make clean between your dep and bzImage. In order to get it right try: make mrproper make config make dep clean bzImage Hope it helps, Miguel Afonso Oliveira -- =========================================================== | | | Miguel Afonso Oliveira | | | | Condensed Matter Theory Group | | Blackett Laboratory | | Imperial College | | Prince Consort Road Phone: + 44 2075947615 | | London SW7 2BZ + 44 7974849653 | | United Kingdom Email: m.a.oliveira@ic.ac.uk | | | =========================================================== -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

"Internal Compilor error, caugt deathly signal 11, pipe closed"
In most cases this is a sign of buggy hardware, e.g. flaky or mismatched ram
or overclocked processors. I once had the URL to a rather good explanation
but can't seem to find it.

Do you mean this one? http://www.bitwizard.nl/sig11 IIRC, it once was listed on the gcc/egcs FAQ, but it seems to have vanished from there.
