[opensuse] No wifi on Dell Inspiron mini
Hi all, I borrowed a Dell Inspiron Mini netbook for next week. I managed to install oS 12.1 with KDE from an USB stick. There are some problems however, the most severe is the lack of wifi. I cannot config the touchpad, apparantly the oS does not recognize it as a laptop. Did anyone out there succeded with those things? Is there any experience with that netbook and other distros? Thanks for any help: Albert Oszkó -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

On a Asus EEEPC, I did not succed to use wifi using KDE3 graphics tools, BUT it worked using command line (iwconfig , iwlist, wpa_supplicant). Try it :) Dsant, against wifi / pro wires -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There's a blog about this on lizards.o.o , unfortunately I cannot connect at this point to provide the link. Just look in my blogs. Well, it turned out that the solution is relatively simple: http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43/#openSUSE Best regards, Albert -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
Thanks, I will look after it. In the meantime I learnt that the wifi problem is caused by the poor linux support of the broadcom chip. I also read that this netbook allegedly works without flaws with ubuntu 10.04, a more than 2 years old OS! If I fail with opensuse, I'll give it a try with Linux MInt. That's because the mini was available from Dell with Ubuntu pre-installed and Dell had the rights to distribute the then proprietary Broadcom driver.
