I am not aware if this issue has been addressed yet - as i could not find anything in the archies i doubt it. I am running SuSE 8.2 on a machien that has direct access to the internet, i want to share this net connection to a windows machine - when i disable the network on the windows machine then re-enable it, it says - 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Assigned by DHCP then it refreshes and automatically assigns itself a windows address. How do i set up the DHCP conf file to set the windows IP address to work off: 192.168.0.x ???? And then how do i share the net connection through DHCP to windows?? I could do it in Mandrake 9.0/9.1 and Lycoris Desktop L/X (Amethyst) - But SuSE does not seem to have a config tool like the others. There are no problems with my network conenctions, but does a hub have to support IP address assigning (DHCP) to assign them? all i have is 4 computers (only 2 hooked up roght now) connected through a standard 4 port hub - using CAT-5 network cable..... Anyone got any ideas? _________________________________________________________________ Get mobile Hotmail. Go to http://ninemsn.com.au/mobilecentral/signup.asp

What do you have in /etc/dhcpd.conf now? It should be something like subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.254; option broadcast-address 192.168.1.255; option routers 192.168.1.1; authoritative; } then make sure you have the internal interface set in /etc/sysconfig/dhcpd variable DHCPD_INTERFACE, and that it's set to run at boot with "insserv dhcpd" Then set up the firewall, using YaST2 for example, for routing and masquerading. If the help texts in YaST2 don't help you, look at the unofficial faq at http://susefaq.sourceforge.net
computers (only 2 hooked up roght now) connected through a standard 4 port hub - using CAT-5 network cable.....
As long as the hub lets through broadcast messages, there shouldn't be a problem

For your understanding: Windows box assigning a spontaneously invented lease means that it didn't get an address from any DHCP server.

For your understanding: you do not share a connection "via DHCP" -- DHCP only distribute configuration stuff (mainly basic stuff like IP address, netmask and gateway address) to a client machine, so the data can be maintained centrally.

The hub doesn't need to know what you are sending over it, because it operates at a much lower level (physical layer of the network).
Anyone got any ideas?
First off: watch /var/log/messages on the server for anything that dhcpd logs, while restarting it, and while playing with winipcfg (or ipconfig) on the windows box, and try to understand it. Peter
