[opensuse] 12.3/x86 Thinkpad T60p Firegl Mobility V5200 Backlight issue
I've been using 12.3 on mt Thinkpad and I've noticed an issue with the backlight. If I leave the display on a VT(Virtual Terminal i.e. Ctrl-Alt-F1) instead of in X, if the backlight goes out it won't come back on. I can switch back to X & it still won't come on. However, if I let it sit again long enough(like the first time), then the backlight will come back up ok. If I close the lid to hibernate the laptop & then open it back up the backlight comes on ok as well. Has anyone else noticed this type of issue? There is a page here: http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_display_remaining_black_after_res... That talks about a backlight issue when resuming, but I don't have that issue. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

No, but I suggest you to try kernel from Kerne:HEAD and if the problem persists, fill a bug report against component "Kernel". -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

There are a variety of small annoying issues with the Community Radeon drivers such as the one you mention, and a few others. I've found that adding the repository to Yast/Zypper: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_12.3/ Then selecting xf86-video-ati from this repository (and let it select all the dependencies it needs) seems to fix just about all of these problems. Note: My cursory google of your card seems to suggest that this is the correct driver to use, however, you would be wise to check my work. ;-) You may have to select the option to allow vendor changes, but usually only on the first run. This repository was recommended to me by Tobias Klausmann, one of the maintainers of X11 packages. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
