Re: [SLE] switching /dev/cdrom and /dev/cdrecorder

One of the small errors I encountered is that my CD-ROM drive is mounted to /dev/cdrecorder while my CD-writer is mounted to /dev/cdrom.
Is fixing this as simple as editing /etc/fstab from: /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 to: /dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrecorder auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0
Or would this break other configurations?
Do you have scsi- or ide cd-drives?
AFAIK they're both IDE-drives. Although they do show up under the scsi
header (as well as under the CDROM header) in YaST's hardware detection:
CD-ROM:
PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W1610A
bus: SCSI
CD type: cdrom
Device name: /dev/sr0
Vendor: E-IDE
driver: ide-scsi
So I assume it's an IDE device with SCSI emulation (required for
Xcdroast)
CD-writer:
PLEXTOR CD-R PX-W1610A
bus: SCSI
CD type: cdrw
Device name: /dev/sr1
Vendor: PLEXTOR
driver: ide-scsi
btw, is there a way to get the hardware-detection output to file? It
would be nice not to have to run the detection every time you want to
look something up...

Cdrecord 1.11a28 (i686-suse-linux) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling
Using libscg version 'schily-0.6'
scsibus0:
0,0,0 0) 'E-IDE ' 'CD-ROM 48X/TKU ' 'T42 ' Removable CD-ROM
0,1,0 1) 'PLEXTOR ' 'CD-R PX-W1610A' '1.01' Removable CD-ROM
cd cd-rom would be the E-IDE.
TIA
p.s. I noticed something strange while producing this output: I couldn't
copy the output of the command from the terminal to this window, I had
to redirect the output to a file, chown it to my regular user, open the
file with a text-viewer and copy/paste it. Is this normal behaviour?

cd cd-rom would be the E-IDE. Go to /dev. There should be two soft links: sr0 -> cdrom and sr1 -> cdrecorder. Now type: "rm cdrecorder", "rm cdrom", "ln -s sr0 cdrecorder" and "ln -s sr1 cdrom" If you now want to install software with YaST you have to use your other drive

I hope I could help you, Fabian

There's something strange here:
m8ram@linux:/dev> lh cdrecorder
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2003-02-07 11:20 cdrecorder -> sr0
is as would be suspected, but:
m8ram@linux:/dev> lh cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2003-02-07 11:20 cdrom -> hdc
Right now, Yast does use the cd-rom drive and not the cd-writer, what
would I have to do extra to keep that this way?
You've been a great help already!

Given the output above, I would have guessed it was the other way around ln -s sr0 cdrom ln -s sr1 cdrecorder
