I have just got one of these - the connection is USB, and it gets recognised on plugin, and the wacom module gets loaded. Unfortunately, I can't get it running. Previous posts, and the 8.0 manual, suggest that I should run sax2 to set it up, but sax2 has gone AWOL - I have a Voodoo3 card set up for 3D, and sax2 doesn't seem to like that; it gives a message that the signal is out of range, and does funky things to the screen display. (A similar thing happened when I tried replacing a CRT screen on another PC this morning with a ProphetView LCD screen - I had to use xf86config4 to set up the XF86Config file. So sax2 still has a few wrinkles.) Anyway, nothing daunted, i tried editing XF86Config directly, based on a few other posts on the list. The relevant sections ended up as follows: Section "InputDevice" Driver "keyboard" Identifier "Keyboard[0]" Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbKeyCodes" "xfree86" Option "XkbLayout" "gb" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "ButtonNumber" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" Option "Name" "AutoDetected" Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Option "Vendor" "AutoDetected" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "Pen" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "InputFashion" "Pen" Option "Mode" "Absolute" Option "Name" "Graphire Tablet (USB)" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "SendCoreEvents" "on" Option "Type" "stylus" Option "Vendor" "WACOM" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "Wacom Mouse" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "InputFashion" "Tablet" Option "Mode" "Relative" Option "Name" "Graphire Cursor (USB)" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "Type" "cursor" Option "Vendor" "WACOM" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Driver "wacom" Identifier "Eraser" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "InputFashion" "Pen" Option "Mode" "Absolute" Option "Name" "Graphire Eraser (USB)" Option "Protocol" "Auto" Option "Type" "eraser" Option "Vendor" "WACOM" EndSection ..... Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Layout[all]" InputDevice "Keyboard[0]" "CoreKeyboard" InputDevice "USB-PS/2 Mouse" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Wacom Mouse" "SendCoreEvents" InputDevice "Pen" "SendCoreEvents" InputDevice "Eraser" "SendCoreEvents" Screen "Screen[0]" EndSection Unfortunately, though, when I saved this and sought to start the XServer again, it gave a message that " " at line 84 (the beginning of the Wacom bits) was not a valid option. Hmmm. The quotes etc seem OK to me, but maybe I'm missing something. Has anyone any advice they could give on what I should try next? TIA Kevin
Replying to my own message, I've got a bit farther. Can anyone offer advice on how to get to the goal? On Saturday 05 October 2002 6:02 pm, Kevin Donnelly wrote:

Since sax2 fell over when I tried to run it on my souped up 3D-enabled Voodoo 3 (look upon its framerate and weep, you nVidia people - not), I did a bit more digging around and came up with sax2 -F. So I did went to su via sux (you need to do that since su does not allow you to run an XServer app, and this is one of those), and ran sax2 -F mouse. Vis this, I was able to add sections for the Graphire to the XF86Config file, which did not complain when I restarted the X server. The sections were pretty much as in my first post, but with the change that the "Device" Option was /dev/input/event0 instead of /dev/input/mice. Still no go, though. So, based on this page - http://gug.sunsite.dk/tutorials/ayoros1/ - I added Load "xf86Wacom" to the Modules section, since xf86Wacom.so was indeed in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules. For good measure, I also added InputDevice "Mouse[5]" "" InputDevice "Mouse[7]" "" to the ServerLayout section. I restarted X again, but still no go. Grrr! I must be not doing something obvious - can anyone help ... please? Thanks Kevin
