I updated xorg-x11 via smart to:

1st this is a mixture of 6.9 and 7.1 - bad idea. 2nd Xorg-7.1 is very very very alpha at the moment. Expect missing packages, breakage, etc. any time. This will stabilize soon.
Hi, Xorg 7.1 is working fine in 10.1 i386 with latest packages. AFAIK It does not use /etc/X11/xorg.conf anymore, it uses a new file from /usr/X11/getconfig directory or something like that... -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

I'm not saying that because I only heard that. Stefan (doing the packages) is sitting in the room right next to me, and there *are* issues. This *is* alpha. Heck, it isn't even in Factory yet (Alpha2), and we don't even use it internally ATM. This is *only* available from the opensuse build service so far.

No, Xorg 7.1 will still use /etc/X11/xorg.conf. getconfig has only been used if there is no configuration file. This is the some for some releases now, but you do not want to use X11 without configuration file, believe me. Not yet.
