[S.u.S.E. Linux] RealAudio installation pointers needed.
This newbie could use some help in configuring RealAudio 5.0 for SuSE Linux 5.2. The RealAudio instructions say to edit the '.profile' file and add a path statement. I can't find a '.profile' file for 'root', so I entered the path statement from the command line. When I type 'echo $PATH' the path to rvplayer is shown to be there, yet when I type 'which rvplayer' I get no response back. Instructions also say to move library files to the appropriate 'lib'. What does this mean? I've added the appropriate entries under "applications" for Netscape Communicator 4.04, so the RealAudio player launches, but as it stands now, when I launch a RealAudio web site, the RealAudio player appears, but shows connected to 000.000.etc..., and just sits there doing nothing. Hello, First of all, you may want to th epath to system wide profile file, which is located in /etc directory. add a line, export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/rvplayer5.0 or the correct path. Then, addd export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/loca/rvplayer5.0 'but keep the libraries in the same directory. As far as Netscape concerned, it comes with default rvplayer options. You dont have to do anything. If you dont have the info for realplayer, then use "Mime.types" which comes with rvplayer. Also make sure that you typed and after choosing application in netscape applications configuration /usr/local/rvplayer Cengiz On Sat, 16 May 1998, lsayre wrote:

This has partially worked. Now the RealAudio stations come on and play for about a second, then everything stops (sound, and the running time indicator), except that the modem lights indicate that it keeps getting a signal that appears to be the RealAudio stream. This is getting frustrating. I thank you for your help, and if you (or others) have any more pointers, please let me know. Lawrence Sayre <lsayre@integrityonline13.com> Cengiz Vural wrote:

RAObserver.class and RAPlayer.class need to be copied to you netscape/plugins dir if you want to use the netscape plugin. Then you need to symlink the shared object. On my box, netscape is in /opt and rvplayer is in /opt, so: ln -s /opt/rvplayer/librvplayer.so /opt/netscape/plugins/librvplayer.so Then add these two line to /etc/profile: export PATH=$PATH:/opt/rvplayer export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/rvplayer and voila, you should have a functioning realplayer. good luck. lsayre wrote:
