How would i make things work by playing my dvd movies in 8.2 ? Both Xine & MPlayer comes with this distribution. Is it only those win32codecs you have to get or is it more to do ????? I'm using a ATI Radeon 8500 card by the way. /Tobbe

/Tobbe i used ogle to play DVD's. I had to build it from source but it works great. I never was able to get those two applications to use my DVD drive correctly. I think it also shouldn't matter what video card you use, just getting the software codecs and such, I don't believe (though i could be wrong) that

Tobbe, I don't know where you live, but restrictions in the USA make it difficult, if not impossible, to legally run Linux software that can decode copyrighted DVDs. (One exception is the "closed box" Linux systems like TiVo). There are worldwide sources of the necessary software, but it can be a major undertaking to acquire and compile all of the many required routines and libraries. InterVideo had intended to market a commercial product call LinDVD, but decided to make this available only to OEMs. See: http://www.intervideo.com/jsp/Product_Profile.jsp?p=LinDVD I would suggest trying vlc. It is buggy but is useable. An interesting thing about vlc is that it runs on both Linux and Windows. In the latter instance it is not (yet) subject to some of the restrictions of other Windows based DVD software. A real oddity is that the executable USA Windows version includes the decoder, but the Linux version doesn't. See: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ Robbie

Both xine and Mplayer distributed with SuSE 8.2 are useless for watching DVDs as they do not contain either the decryption librarys or the correct codecs. This is due to the closed nature of commercial DVDs and the potential for litigation if these were to be included in the distribution. It does beg the question "why bother to include them at all". I think you better ask SuSE that. All is not lost however, as there are rpms for everything you need at http://packman.links2linux.de/ Nick
