[opensuse] how to use ksmarttray?
Hello all: Please explain to me how to use ksmarttray. I have openSUSE 10.2 with KDE 3.5.6 and these smart packages installed: smart-ksmarttray-0.50-1.guru.suse102 smart-0.50-1.guru.suse102 smartmontools-5.36.cvs20061025-8 smart-gui-0.50-1.guru.suse102 smart-addons-0.50-1.guru.suse102 I never before used ksmarttray but I use smart-gui regularly. I wanted to try ksmarttray and launched it. It put the icon in the system tray. Right click on the icon shows "KSmartTray" and grayed out "Check" and "Start Smart" menus. The application seems to do nothing. However top reports: PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND 4599 root 25 0 62408 51m 4340 R 95.7 10.3 31:40.86 smart This has been going on for ~45 minutes. Is this normal? (I think not). What should I do? Thanks, IG __________________________________________________________________________________________________ ÖN SEM MARADHAT LE! 80 OKJ-s tanfolyam, már távoktatással is! Couple of things. First, it may be updating sources. If so, you won't be able to do anything until it is done. Second, you may not have launched it with super user privileges. Well it might have downloaded stuff but after a while, at least according to kinternet icon, there was not any internet activity, still ksmarttray used a lot of CPU and seemed to do nothing. privileges. Did you do

If you read my message you could see that the line I pasted from top window clearly showed that smart had been run by root. It might have been indexing your RPM database? Just a hunch. Typically if you hover over the icon it will tell you what is going on.
