[SLE] Suse 7.0 pro + yast2 + modem = no install :-(
Hi, I have just spent all weekend trying to install the above from DVD (I assume CDs would be the same - but I'm not trying yet !). The symptoms are that near the end of the installation a red box appears stating that an error occured in the installation - not very useful ! However, after searching news archives I found other people had the same problem and that If I selected the alt-f3/4 terminal screens I could get the error message, which I did . It says something on the following lines : /lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2: line 162: 60 segmentation fault y2bignfat "$modulename" $moduleargs qt -T -style=platinum -fn "-gnu-unifont-medium-r-normal--16-160-75-75-p-80-iso10646-1" -geometry 640x480 -no-wm /lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2: line 163: 56 Killed x -deferglyphs 16vt07 2>/dev/tty8 1> &2 /lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.Start return code is 35584 (errno = 2) After much testing I found that it is caused by leaving my modem (Pace solo external com2) on during installation ! If I switched it off it would install, however when I try to setup the Kinternet it says my modem connection is not configured. If I run yast2 and try to detect the modem it fails - despite the rx/tx lights flashing. What can I do ? Is there a patch to yast 2 to make it work, is there a known problem with this and other modems, can I use kinternet to setup the modem correctly, or do I use another method ? Also why is Xfree86 version 3 and not 4 installed ? (using a TNT2u card) is it safe to run sax2 and let it convert to version 4 ? I tried it a couple of times and it really screwed my keyboard up - no keys matched reality ! Is this realted to the modem or other hardware problem, did I do something wrong - or should I stick to Mandrake which detects everything nicely ?
