Hello, I just switched to Opensuse that I find very eye-kandy, well organized and worth a try ;) My impressions are good but I can't still play mp3 files even with the appropriate packages installed (mad and win32codecs). I searched the list for answers, added the adviced third-party repositories and installed successfully some non-free packages, including those needed for mp3 playback. Amarok and Kaffeine, both powered by the Xine engine, are unable to play mp3 files : symptoms include softwares that seem to start the playback, but suddenly skip to the next file in the playlist. I have no idea of what to do in order to enable the playback. What do you advise me to do ? -- François Obada (Titoxx69)

Last week I was pointed to http://desktoplinux.com/articles/AT2703022234.html. It is more than just installing the needed software, it also prepares for updates and such. CBee
Hello I had simular problems with xine, I was unable to get the win32 codecs to work properly. As a hack for the problem I compiled xine and a few other packages from source. It not pretty but it works. On Saturday 17 December 2005 10:14, François Obada wrote:
