[SLE] Internet install SL 10.1 freezes
Did anyone succeed in completing an installation of SL 10.1 over the internet? In trying to do an installation onto a Parallels VM of 10,1 I had to jump through a couple of hoops (partition the virtual HD to offer a swap partition or Yast wouldn't start, load a NE2000 driver for the virtual ethernet card), but finally, after a 78MB download, the familiar Yast installation screen appeared . That was the good news. The bad news is that the process suffocates in step 3 "Initializing catalogs". The little clock at the mouse pointer turns for like 10 minutes and then it stops and everything hangs. At first I thought it was a Parallels thing, but in the Linux forum at least four people mentioned the same problem, none having stumbled on a solution. Because everything hangs, I can't look at logs or whatever, so that makes life a little difficult. :-) I'm still using 9.3 as my main system, but I wanted to have a look at 10.1. So it's not a matter of life or death, but it boggles the mind somewhat. The VM uses 256 MB of the available 512MB and the size of the virtual swap partition is 512MB. Ideas? This has been reported here too. About two or three weeks ago. If I remember correctly there were not any solutions but you can check the archives nonetheless. Only Ricardo Rodriguez reports the same problem, (without a solution) and Boyd Gerber reports success. He gives a couple of installation servers (I used ftp.gwdg.de) so I'll give couple of others a try. Maybe the process times out. I remember having a similar problem with downloading openoffice 2.0 from that server. Did you check the virtual consoles at <Ctrl>+<Alt>-<F1>..<F10>? Any /error/ messages?
