rick, i got it working now. but if it i used the graphical login *changing inittab file*, fvwm2 is the default manager. using the text login and starting X manually, kde is the default. please. help. =) JL

have you just tried to put startkde in your .xinitrc file by itself? I have .xinitrc in my home directory and it works just fine.
