Yast / Software Management / File menue item Export. Produces an XML file that you can import. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

To be precise: Yast -> Software Management -> Extra -> Export package list -- Per Jessen, Zürich (13.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I was being precise. Its not on the Extra submenu in version 12.3. Its on the File submenu. At least that is where it is in the English version. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Funny, I also have 12.3, but in Yast->Software Management there is no "File" menu : http://files.jessen.ch/adenauer-yast2-screenshot.jpeg -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Whilst we're on the topic, can this package list be used/imported during installation? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Ah yes, I see where it may be imported - if only I could specify a URL instead of a filesystem location. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.6°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I believe you have to save that file on a memory stick or or someplace, and do a minimal install, then copy it to root's directory and import it from there. I saw one web page some time back where I guy did this, but frankly I haven't tried it. Its usefullness is highly suspect, because it mentions specific versions of the packages:

That might work if installing from a static source such as a CD rom, but if you had fetched any of those from repositiries they might not even be available any more. Yes, I was thinking of trying something like that. I'll just copy the file over with scp, but being able to specify it as a url would be quite useful - if the overall import works, that is.

Hehe, thanks - weird, I would have sworn the menus would be the same in gui and ncurses. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (9.4°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Well, I've tried this import file list and I can't make sense of it at all. I thought it would load my list as an initial setup, then perhaps allow me to change it, add/remove packages etc. It doesn't seem to allow that though. It also ignores some of my packages, e.g. I had syslog-ng selected, but it overrode that with rsyslog. Weird. Does anyone know how this import facility is meant to work? -- Per Jessen, Zürich (10.9°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - dedicated server rental in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
