[opensuse] Code Weavers available for free on Oct. 28th
Code Weavers is the for cash version of wine. I've never used either, so this is just an FYI, not a recommendation. For details of the giveaway see: http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/10/27/codeweavers-software-fr... That's why <insert diety here> created proxies! :) I've been using Crossover for several years. Works great with many apps. Photoshop and Visio 2002 are the only things I have a headache with. http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/20080912_wine_visio.jpg http://www.perfectreign.com/stuff/2008/20080618_crossover_excel.jpg In fact, Word XP and Excel XP both open documents faster than does OpenOffice. -- kai www.filesite.org || www.perfectreign.com Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it. - Dee Hock -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Kai, all, I tried crossover with office 2007 and it worked fine, but the font rendering in crossover looked terrible. Compared to the full XP install with office 2007 in virtualbox, the disk space savings was great, but the visual aspect wasn't so great. If I were disk space limited, or memory limited, crossover looks like a good solution. If it's not, I like the virtualbox solution. Everything just looks better and there are no possibilities of software compatibility issues. Thanks for the links! -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Got it and installed it on my test machine. So far I have not been able to get the software I wanted to run installed (TurboTax). Test machine is 32 bit opensuse 11.0, and KDE4.1.2 both have latest updates including kernel update. Codeweaver site says need joilet extensions compiled into OS. Do you know if thats the default.? My dvd read writes do not complain about it. -- Russ Registered Linux User #441463 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
There was traffic on lockups with the latest Kernel (under 10.3 as well as 11.0 as I recall) which has since stopped. I can't make out a "dead chicken procedure" from the discussions, but I might be missing something. So, did resolving hard lockups with the latest Kernel patch settle down to a "dead chicken procedure", or do I have homework to do to start straightening this out? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

James, I haven't heard of anything related to poultry on the list. However, you are much more likely to get a response if you start a new thread instead of just replying to post "Re: [opensuse] Code Weavers available for free on Oct. 28th" and changing the subject line. Right now you message is buried 6 (six) layers deep in the Code Weavers thread. Always start a new thread and avoid changing the subject line unless adding the word [SOLVED]. Changing the subject line breaks threading for everyone on the list. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
