[opensuse] Dovecot & Multiple identities
Hi, Since about a week I moved from courier-imap to dovecot, to be able to work with managesieve. I use version 1.2.5, on suse 10.3. It seems to work fine except for one problem : I use a number of aliasses and with Thunderbird is can select which alias to use as my identity when sending a mail. When I use such an alias, I can send the mail (smtp), but it can't be copied to the sent-folder. I'm trying to debug this but dovecot does not help much. I tried rawlog but there is no output (that I see) from it, no files in the maildir. Any hints how to proceed ? Output op dovecot -n : # 1.2.5: /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf # OS: Linux 2.6.22.19-0.4-default x86_64 openSUSE 10.3 (X86-64) base_dir: /var/run/dovecot/ log_path: /var/log/dovecot log_timestamp: %Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S listen: *:143 ssl_listen: *:993 ssl_ca_file: /etc/postfix/certificate/cacert.org.pem ssl_cert_file: /etc/postfix/certificate/mailbox.pem ssl_key_file: /etc/postfix/certificate/mailboxkey.pem disable_plaintext_auth: no verbose_ssl: yes login_dir: /var/run/dovecot//login login_executable: /usr/lib/dovecot/imap-login first_valid_uid: 499 last_valid_uid: 499 mail_location: maildir:/var/vmail/%d/%u mail_debug: yes mail_executable: /usr/lib/dovecot/rawlog /usr/lib/dovecot/imap lda: postmaster_address: postmaster@mydomain.com sendmail_path: /usr/lib/sendmail auth_socket_path: /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mail_plugins: cmusieve auth default: mechanisms: plain login user: nobody verbose: yes debug: yes passdb: driver: sql args: /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf userdb: driver: sql args: /etc/dovecot/dovecot-sql.conf socket: type: listen client: path: /var/spool/postfix/private/auth mode: 432 user: postfix group: postfix master: path: /var/run/dovecot/auth-master mode: 432 user: vmail group: vmail -- Met vriendelijke groeten, Koenraad Lelong -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have a similar setup in that I use a local imap server to manage my email-folders and use Tbird as a client (over a local net). The only oddity I see in my "sent box" is that the meta-info, the envelope line: "From me@mydomain Day Mon 11 23:59:59 2009 -0700" (no colon after the From), in my 'Sent Box' is not the same as the one that goes out the wire via sendmail. Mailers use that line for routing, while my imap server (uw imap), uses it as a message separator, but it's not part of the mail message. A possibility might be dovecot doing some non-standard peeking "into the envelope" to do some verification, but that would be a broken-implementation. If it was me trying to proceed at this point, I'd enable non-ssl connect on the server & use non-ssl connect on the client (on a direct-internal ethernet, not where it could be sniffed), and use "wireshark" to verify that the protocol was correct. You could also see the exact difference in how a normal session 'works' and how it's different when it fails -- that should give you an idea of why it is failing. -linda -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi, ... FWIW, I solved this, with the help from the dovecot-list. It had little to do with the imap-server. For some reason a whole while ago, in thunderbird I modified the place to store sent files, and later modified it back to "standard". This modified configuration was copied when I made aliasses before I moved back to the "standard" config. With courier it didn't matter, the places where the same. With dovecot it does matter. So I modified the sent-locations in my aliasses and all is fine now.
