Near, but miss non the less. Not the "graphics driver" makes the bug, but the "theme engine" and or the "theme" selected.

I had a similar problem with dark grey text on black background in a theme.

First try an other theme on the DE, or, if using KDE / Plasma select other GTK Theme / disable "use KDE colors within GTK"

I wish you success in casing that one down.

Have you tried System Settings->Color and uncheck the 'Apply colors to non-Qt applications'? ISTR this helped in my case (but I aso changed the Gimp theme).
