Does anybody know when 8.1 is expected in eastern Ontario, Canada? Which retailers are carrying it? Or is there web/mail-order within Canada? I paid WAY too much the last time I ordered from SuSE and it had to cross borders. Amazon.ca doesn't carry software (dammit!) /kevin

Don't know about Eastern Ontario but the Best buy here in Toronto had 8.0 in stock when it opened last week. I didn't ask about the new version. Maybe Future shop will carry it. Nick

Well, that was a planning boo-boo. I hope they didn't have a big stock. When it doesn't sell, that would discourage them from stocking future versions. Maybe SuSE ought to offer them a reduction on 8.1 for every copy of 8.0 they still have (only that one store, because it just opened). Local Future Shop knows nothing, so far. Local BestBuy has been constructed, but stands empty until next year, cuz they've decided to concentrate on Toronto area. Does anybody know of a Canadian retailer that will sell SuSE via the web? Google has not found anything, yet. /kevin (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, eh?)

I ordered 7.2 from them and it was delivered all the way to B.C in 4 days. Not sure when They get there stock of new releases though. This was a big discussion with the release of 8.0, so I'm sure if you check the archives you'll be able to get an idea of those who stock SuSE and when , in relation to the release, they get them. Cheers. On Wed, 2002-10-02 at 10:31, Nick Zentena wrote:

Humph! I'm............ miffed. A week after ordering, I just got an e-mail from Camelot in Montreal, sorrowfully informing me that they don't seem to have the item that I ordered -- SuSE 8.1 Pro -- available. Two more weeks, at least. Just when I had my mouth all set for the taste... dammit! So, I called The Clones Society, and they don't have it at all. Not even listed in their computer as something they *would* carry. The guy who took my call suggested that it might be because their regional distributor is no longer supplying. This is the same conversation that I had with "Novo Club", before they went out of business. Some political wrangling has resulted in a falling-out between SuSE and whomever *was* doing regional distribution in Eastern Canada. FutureShop is still trying to sell 8.0. No 8.1 yet. So, is ANYBODY aware of ANY store that has SuSE 8.1 Pro in stock, in the Ottawa region, Ontario, Canada? Actually, I'm driving to Montreal this weekend, so if there's any place in Montreal... that would be good, too?? /kevin On Wednesday 02 October 2002 13:34, Greg Franks wrote:

Hi Kevin, I also received email from Camelot saying that SuSE 8.1 would not be available for a while. I called them and spoke to Bernard who said that their new supplier had originally promised better delivery but had recently told Camelot that delivery would likely be around the weekend of October 19. Camelot was very good about canceling my order. Future Shop in western Canada is not any more aware of SuSE 8.1 than Future Shop in eastern Canada. They still think SuSE 8.0 is the latest. So once again SuSE in Canada is non-existent. Linux Central (I do not have an interest) will ship to Canada. They have SuSE Pro @ US74.95 and SuSE 8.1 Update @ US$49.95 and in stock. To reduce your cost into Canada, select USPS rather than UPS. UPS charges a C$35 handling fee + GST + duty on shipments into Canada. USPS becomes Purolator in Canada and the handling fee is only C$5 + +. By selecting USPS air mail from Linux Central your landed cost is about the same as if you had bought SuSE from Camelot.ca. HTH. TO CKM: Is there anyone at SuSE that we can effectively complain to about the poor SuSE supply into Canada?

Ralph, You have interesting info to offer for canadians. I live in Ottawa. Now , concerning SuSE distribution in Canada. I believe that the SuSE people are doing what they can. There are not many takers here. To go with Future is better than anybody else as Future Shop has the most widely spread distribution channnels in place in Canada. However, the downside is that Future Shop tends to buy only 'end of the line product lines' in order to be competitive. There may be light at the end of the tunnel. Once Future Shop becomes Best Buy sometimes next year, there may be a possibility to have SuSE's software avilable in a more timely fashion. Another possibility might be Amazon Canada once they ramp up properly. Curently I am in a favourable position to bring it in from Germany when I visit with my father. But I do not have version 8.1 either. To bring it in from the US at this time, considering the value of the 'canadion peso' ist hardly an option. I guess we just have to sit tight and wait it out. Greetings from Ottawa where the Canada Geese are getting ready for an US invasion (no puns intended). Heri Riesbeck On Thursday 10 October 2002 01:08, Ralph Sanford wrote:
