Re: [SLE] Suse vs Ubuntu
Hi, Well I use both of them. Suse at work and kubuntu (ubunto+kde) at home. Suse for the beginner Linux user is a simple SO because Suse has YAST. Any user can use YAST to configure/change a Suse machine. Until now I can't understand why the other dists don't use Yast now that is open source. But for a little more experienced user, debian/ubuntu/kubuntu or any dist debian based is easier to maintain. The software repositories for debian are huge, and apt tool it's awesome (no, apt4rpm it's not the same)

What is mayor difference between Suse and Ubuntu distribution? Ease of use and install.
I have been using SuSE since 9.0 and have a production 9.2 box as well as a 'production' Win XP box. The XP box is the newer and slightly higher spec'd machine so I decided to also install Ubuntu on the sustem from a live/install/ CD. Live worked OK detrected the hardware etc. I had to use Gnome and I normally use KDE. Install sucked BIG TIME. It completely obliterated by Windows partition even after being told on which partition to install and left me with a hefty doorstop. I had to relaod Windows and its production software and then restore data from backups. This house will try and never use Ubuntu ever again. I'm a Susian and that's IT! -- ======================================================================== Currently using SuSE 9.2 Professional with KDE and Mozilla 1.7.2 Linux user # 229959 at http://counter.li.org ======================================================================== -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com
