Anybody able to point me in the right direction
I've never heard of slocate but I assume it is a variant of locate. With the locate command, you must first run a command called updatedb to create the .db used by the locate command. I would assume the same goes for slocate.

Got 8.2 and installed slocate Yes, you'll need to run the appropriate ubdatedb before it will work. Also you'll need to make the /etc/cron.daily/updatedb script run the right updatedb to keep it current.
Where did you get slocate? slocate is much better than locate. eg: slocate -i CaseInsensitiveSearch slocate -r full_regex_support
Linux is like a wigwam - No Gates, no Windows, Apache inside. Good one.
