RE: [SuSE Linux] Help w/ Linux Boot Menu under Win95
I have followed exactly the instructions for a boot menu under windoze95 on p. 39 of the SuSE 5.3 manual. It doesn't work!!! The only way that I can get anything to work is to just call "loadlin hda6" from my autoexec.bat, and to forget about anything regarding linux in my config.sys.
Why don't you just use lilo as the bootmanager and have it default to window$. Try looking at pages 117-138 of the same manual. It explains lilo. My personal opinion: forget loadlin. Lilo is much better.
I agree, that lilo is great, but dont forget loadlin just yet, it is handy if windows should delete lilo from the MBR.
Can someone who has successfully gotten a boot menu running under win95 PLEASE send me a copy of their autoexec.bat, config.sys, and the files in the loadlin directory of the root dos/win drive. ( I have to keep microslop windows around for the girlfriend)
Just use the examples for using loadlin for win3.x. I did. They work. BTW, doesn't it say to use "linux hda6"? (the .bat-file in c:\loadlin\) Anyway, I would recommend to switch to lilo. If you use yast to configure it just remember that your windows should be the first if you want it to be the default.
