[opensuse] Leap 42.1 Soundcard(s) stopped working.
Problem #1 This is a new machine, built about 3 months ago. The motherboard is an ASUS H170M-E with 00:1f.3 Audio device: Intel Corporation Sunrise Point-H HD Audio (rev 31) built-in sound. Operating system is openSUSE Leap 42.1, fully patched, with KDE5 and pulseaudio. Until a week or so ago, the sound was working OK. I went away, and on my return, it's stopped working. Yast sees the card, configures it as card 0 using the snd_hda_intel driver, but there is no output from test sound or volume settings. I noticed a boot message which says: [2.547611] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: no codecs found! What has happened to the codecs, and how can I reinstall them? Problem #2 Because of Problem #1, I added an ASUS Xonar D1 PCI sound card, which had worked in my previous machine, also running openSUSE Leap 42.1, KDE5 and pulseaudio. Yast can see this card, but cannot set it up. The message is: An error occurred during installation of Virtuoso 100 (Xonar D1). The kernel module snd_virtuoso for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters. I would appreciate a solution to either Problem #1 or #2, if anyone can point me in the right direction.
