Trying to get HP Omnibook XE3 notebook network card to work
I have installed Suse Linux Pro 7.3 on a HP Omnibook XE3 notebook but the built in network card is not detected. According to 'lspci' it is an Intel 82801CAM (ICH3) Chipset ethernet controller. When we previously had RedHat 7.2 installed it detected and worked with the network interface fine. Under Windows 2000 the network interface is identified as "Intel Pro/100 VE" and seems to be using a standard 82557 driver. I have tried using modprobe to load the standard Intel Pro/100 driver but it fails saying the device does not exist. Any ideas? -- Gareth Blades
Hi 7.3 autodetect has a "bug"-kind of thingie, that it does not regognice the NIC correctly. Set it manually to "tulip", and it works. Jaska. Viestissä Maanantai 15. Huhtikuuta 2002 15:25, Gareth Blades kirjoitti:

How exactly do I do this? I tried 'modprobe tulip' to load the module but I get the error "/lib/modules/.....tulip.o init_module: No such device" Thanks Gareth

Hi zast2 is perhaps not the right one to force the tulip-driver. What I did, was that I started "zast", went to system-admin, then integrate-hw, then configure network device. Then select eth0 as the name, then select the DECchip Tulip PCI network card. Then configure the rest of network (ip, mask etc), then it should work. Hope this helps. Jaska. Viestissä Tiistai 16.
