Some jpg photo's in an album were made with a false date. As the program I am working with sorts after date I would like to know how to alter the date of the file to a date of my choice.

Hello,
U can use the touch command:
(from man touch)
-d, --date=STRING
parse STRING and use it instead of current time
Eos

I did a fast man touch and there is an option on the command -d= to set the date to one of your choosing. Mike

You don't mention *which* date you want to change.... the date on the .jpg file itself or possibly the exif information within the file. jhead would be a program to manipulate the exif information within the file. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Well, as a matter of fact, I did not know that there two dates. Nice to have a look into the internals of a jpeg file with jhead but why should I want to bother with the exif date? Are there programs which use this info? Thanks for the tip about jhead.

I believe LinPha, which is a nice photo album program will use (or at least show) the exif data. Point is, some programs you might be using (on Windows possibly) would use the 'date the picture was taken' as the means of sorting the pictures, as opposed to the date on the file which could be totally different. There can also be comments in the exif data. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S.
